Amy’s Pilates Journey

Hello

About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with Spondylolisthesis (when a bone in the spine slips forwards on another) in my lumbar spine (low back). My consultant offered surgery but suggested I try Pilates first. I didn’t fancy an operation so took up Pilates classes. In 2017, following a bad period of time with my back pain and mobility, I began several sessions of physiotherapy and clinical Pilates classes. I was so much better afterwards and decided I would aim to become a Pilates Teacher. To add insult to injury, sometime later I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition, the worst symptom being fatigue! So there I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, needing to practice Pilates for my back health but feeling exhausted! Thankfully, Pilates is low impact and I could get a reasonable work-out lying on my back during the tough days - what’s not to like about that?

So, I took the plunge and having trained with Pilates Training Solutions, I achieved my YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Teaching in September 2019 and began teaching classes in February 2020.  During the Covid pandemic, I found myself having to adapt to teaching online. I am continually looking to expand my knowledge and attend CPD workshops whenever possible.

My classes are held in my home studio in Weybourne and are suitable for complete beginners, improvers and older people. Classes are small (maximum of 6 clients) which enables me to focus more on individuals. If getting down onto the floor is an issue, then the class can be done in a chair or standing. To add variety, we use small equipment such as resistance bands, soft balls and rollers which can be challenging but also good fun! If using the equipment isn’t suitable for you it’s not a problem, as the moves can be done without them.

I also teach at The Maltings in Farnham for the U3A and occasionally provide cover teaching.

Not only does Pilates help with core strength and back problems, it can restore good alignment and posture and help with flexibility, mobility and general wellbeing.  It is never too late to start. Practicing Pilates has completely turned my life around!

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in finding out more about my classes, or would just like to know more about Pilates in general before you make a commitment.

Amy Taylor

My Studio.

Located in Weybourne, classes are held in my home studio where I teach classes of between 4 and 6 clients at a time.

These small groups means I can provide clients with my full attention, giving everyone the time needed to help with their own pilates progress.

I also teach a more universal class online via ZOOM for those clients who prefer to attend the class from home.

One to One sessions are also available. These sessions are solely focused on the individual’s goals and needs.
